NDSU Bison Women's Basketball: ~The BIG 25~

From people much older and wiser than myself, I hear that 25 is a good age; and possibly the last birthday to get REALLY excited about. Mary Grothe, whose office space is located directly to my right, keeps giving me friendly reminders that my car insurance rates will decrease!! Whoop Whoop for that:-) Also, I will be able to drive a rental car without penalty due to my age--another added bonus of turning 25. View the pictures below of my trip to Europe! During a little down time, I was able to visit my friend Leslie (former teammate at Minnesota) in Europe. She had the opportunity to play basketball in Chiasso, Switzerland, this past year and I met up with her over there. The first leg of our trip was in Rome. We toured the Colliseum, The Vatican, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. The history of Rome is unbelievable and the architecture is amazing. After two days in Rome, Leslie and I tourned all over Switzerland via train. Taking the train through the Swiss Mountains was beautiful and easy! We spent time in Zurich, Montreux, Lucern and Chiasso! My favorite expereince in Switzerland was canyoning in Ticino (area of Switzerland). Canyoning is a sport that involves scaling down a mountain via upscaling, sliding, jumping and swimming. If you are really intrigued, go to youtube and search canyoning! Enjoy the photos!-Kelly "I loved playing at NDSU because all the hard work paid off. You knew that you were going to always have a chance to win a conference championship and have a shot at a national championship. NDSU does things the right way. Whether it was travel, gear, or supporting the women’s basketball program, it was always first class. It was fun because the people I was fortunate to play with loved to compete and play as much as I did. And, they were fun off of the court as well! The experience was all about the people!" "I think what I loved most about playing basketball at NDSU was the fact that I learned so much. I learned more about a game that I loved, but I also learned so much about myself. I learned the x's & o's from 2 great teachers in Coach & Kelli. At first I thought it was almost cheating when we would know our opponents offense better than they would. But later I realized that it can also upperclassman (Lori & Jen in my case). Don't ask why you have to take their laundry bags to Lyle in the equipment room, just do it because someday, a freshman will take your laundry bag for you. (Special Note: Thanks to the freshman class of 1999 & 2000 for taking my laundry bag). Fargo was/is an amazing community, one that I am proud to be a part of. I realized that we have the most amazing fans who truly love Women's Basketball. I believe my basketball career at NDSU helped to mold me to who I am today- making me a better mommy, wife, employee & person!" "It is so special in the fact that our team gets to be a part of history. For this year will set the tone for how NDSU Women’s Basketball is going to be in the future with this new conference in Division I. Our team can set the bar high and develop a standard for playing aggressive fundamental basketball. We have the POWER, that’s why it is special to play on the Bison Women’s Basketball team." "Whats so special about playing Bison basketball?! Well, not everyone may be relate to this but it all sinks in when you put the jersey on front thats says BISON or NDSU. Being able to have an opportunity to play a Division I sport and represent NDSU is very special to me. PRIDE and TRADITION. These two words explain what its like to be a Bison. Like I said before to be able to represent NDSU definately is a great opportunity. Yes, the workouts at early mornings may get old, like preseason and summer workouts, but when season comes and you put that jersey on its all worth it!!"

The Problem With Paul Ryan's Roadmap For America's Future

Fred Barnes of the “The Weekly Standard” recently said of the Roadmap, “It’s not only the freshest, boldest, and most comprehensive Republican thinking, it’s also the most relevant. If Republicans adopt the Road Map as their basic ideological blueprint, it offers them the prospect of a landslide in the midterm election this year, followed by victory in the presidential election in 2012.”

Those on the left including President Obama have criticized the Roadmap for any number of reasons. The problem there is that no conservative will listen to criticisms about anything conservative that comes from the left. Also there are those on the right who are covetous of their leadership positions and don’t want to see the Roadmap propel Paul Ryan into their spot. The unfortunate thing is that there is plenty to criticize about the Roadmap but hardly anyone to do as such as so many in and around Washington DC have some sort of investment in either seeing him prosper or fail. But the Roadmap does need serious independent analysis for voters to take it seriously, regardless of your political philosophies.
